Ultra Participações is one of the largest business groups in Brazil. The multi-business company operates in retail and specialized distribution through Ultragaz, Extrafarma, and Ipiranga.
In addition, through Ultracargo, it operates in the storage of liquid bulk and in the specialty chemicals industry through Oxiteno. The company has operations throughout the national territory and with Oxiteno it has units in the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, and Uruguay.

It also has commercial offices in Argentina, Colombia, China, and Belgium. In the individual operations of the companies belonging to the Ultra Participações group, we have:
Ultragaz: It is considered the largest LPG distributor in Brazil and one of the largest independent distributors in the world in terms of volume sold. LPG distribution is carried out in approximately 11 million households through its own fleet and with a network of over 5,100 independent resellers.
Extrafarma: It is one of the largest pharmacy chains in Brazil. According to 2015 data, the company has 254 stores and two distribution centers in the North and Northeast.
Ipiranga: Ipiranga is considered the second largest fuel distributor in the country and has over 7,000 reselling stations.

Ultracargo: With six terminals and a storage capacity of about 630,000 cubic meters, Ultracargo is regarded as the largest producer of storage for liquid bulk in the country.
Oxiteno: It is one of the largest producers of ethylene oxide and its main derivatives in Latin America. It is a major producer of specialty chemicals and the only producer of fatty alcohols and co-products in Latin America.
In addition to the already mentioned commercial offices in Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, and China, Oxiteno has twelve industries in Brazil, the USA, Uruguay, Mexico, and Venezuela.
The history of Ultra Participações begins in 1937 when Ernesto Igel founded the Home Gas Company, which is now called Ultragaz.
At that time, he used gas cylinders purchased from Companhia Zeppelin and introduced LPG as cooking gas into the lives of Brazilians. Gradually, the gas stove replaced the wood stove and, to a lesser extent, alcohol, kerosene, and coal gas stoves.

Over time, the company expanded its LPG distribution operations and began its activities in the petrochemical and logistics sectors. With the company's constant growth, in 1961 it reached the mark of 1 million consumers.
In 1966, the company created Transultra, a company specialized in road transportation and storage of chemical and petrochemical products. Oxiteno began its activities in 1970, and Ultrapar participated in the construction of a national petrochemical park.
This unit, located in the petrochemical hub of Mauá (SP), is a pioneer in the production of ethylene oxide and its derivatives in the country. In 1978, the chemical terminal of Aratu (Tequimar) was founded, resulting in the expansion of logistics services for the storage area.
Over the years, the company continued to grow and consolidated its operational focus on three main businesses:
LPG Distribution;
Chemical and petrochemical production;
Logistics for chemical products and fuels.

In 1997, Ultrapar introduced UltraSystem, the bulk LPG delivery system, and expanded Oxiteno's plants in the petrochemical hub of Camaçari (BA). In 1999, Ultra Participações went public not only on the São Paulo Stock Exchange but also on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) simultaneously.
It is worth noting that the company's credit risk is rated by Moody's and Standard & Poor's as investment grade. With the IPO, the company began to invest in the expansion and modernization of its operations and in corporate simplification.
Thus, in 2002, the company underwent corporate restructuring and incorporated Gipóia Participações through Ultrapar and incorporated Oxiteno's issued shares through Ultrapar. In the end, Ultrapar came to hold 100% of Oxiteno and Ultragaz.

In 2003, the company acquired Shell do Brasil's LPG distribution operation and achieved leadership in the LPG market. In the same year, the company acquired the chemical division of the Berci group, marking the beginning of Oxiteno's operations in Mexico.
The intensification of Oxiteno's international operations came in 2006/2007 with the opening of commercial offices in Argentina and the United States.
Additionally, the company made further acquisitions in Mexico that made Oxiteno Mexico the leader in the ethoxylates market in the country. There was also Oxiteno's entry into Venezuela, the only country in Latin America that produces ethylene oxide where Oxiteno did not yet have operations.
In 2007, Ultra Participações issued 55 million new preferred shares during the acquisition process of the Ipiranga group. This acquisition served to strengthen the company's position in the fuel distribution sector in the South and Southeast regions.

Finally, during the trajectory of Ultra Participações, several companies were acquired and expansions were made, such as the acquisition of União Terminais, the purchase of Texaco in Brazil, the acquisition of 100% of the shares of DNP, and the acquisition of Repsol Gás Brasil.
Among the expansions, it is worth highlighting the partnership with Extrafarma in 2014, which marked Ultrapar's entry into the Brazilian pharmaceutical market.
