Cosan is a company in the sugar-energy sector, with diversified operations in agribusiness, fuel and natural gas distribution, lubricants, and logistics. The services provided are offered by companies such as Raízen Combustíveis, Raízen Energia, Comgás, Moove, and Rumo, companies that are part of Cosan's portfolio and are leaders in their respective segments.

Cosan's history began in 1936, with the opening of the Usina Costa Pinta, specialized in sugarcane production, in Piracicaba (SP). A few years later, in 1986, the company began its expansion process and, with that, acquired more mills, starting the export of sugar through the Central-South region of the country.

In 1993, the company launched in the market the Açúcar VHP (Very High Polarization), initially intended for the external market. With the arrival of the 2000s, the Cosan brand was officially launched, thus ensuring the company's consolidation in the country. Two years after the brand's consolidation, in 2002, Cosan acquired another mill, this time, the Usina da Barra Bonita, in São Paulo.

In 2005, the company became a pioneer in its sector, being the first company to go public on the Novo Mercado of the Brazilian stock exchange. Two years later, in 2017, Cosan also listed shares on the New York Stock Exchange, the stock exchange in New York.
