Neoenergia is one of the largest integrated companies in the electric power sector in Latin America. Controlled by the Iberdrola group from Spain, the Company operates in three specific segments, namely: distribution and transmission networks (networks), wind and hydroelectric generation (renewables) and thermal generation and energy trading (liberalized).

Overall, the electric Company operates in 18 Brazilian states and provides electric power to more than 34 million people. Despite its territorial reach, Neoenergia performs functions in greater quantity in the Northeast region of the country. In addition, the company has a concession area of 840 thousand kilometers, serving 14 million consumer units.
The units are served by 4 distributors: Elektro (SP/MS), Coelba (BA), Celpe (PE), and Cosern (RN). In numbers, the concession area represents 5.1 GW of installed capacity, of which 0.9 GW is operational installed capacity. A large part of Neoenergia's energy generation is based on clean sources, as well as renewable sources.
The history of Neoenergia began in 1997, when the distribution companies in Rio Grande do Norte (Cosern) and Bahia (Coelba) were privatized. After privatization, the company acquired, in a privatization auction, the Energy Company of the state of Pernambuco, CELPE.

Over the years, the company underwent several acquisition processes, until integrating the four segments of the energy sector (generation, distribution, transmission, and commercialization) into the Company's portfolio.
In 2003, for example, 43% of the shares of Itapebi were acquired, and the company developed a restructuring plan to create the holding company Neoenergia, as we know it today.
A few years later, in 2010, a 10% stake in UHE Belo Monte was also acquired, and the company began operating in the Xingu River locations in Pará. In the same year, the Company began construction of 10 wind farms, nine of which were won in auction.

In 2017, the Company incorporated Elektro Holding S.A and began operating through Neoenergia Comercialização. From then on, the energy company ranked first in the ranking prepared by Transparency International for Transparency in Corporate Reports.
Finally, in 2019, Neoenergia went public, making its shares available in the Brazilian stock market, in the Novo Mercado segment, the highest level of corporate governance. Initially, the shares moved a total of R$ 3.7 billion, priced at R$ 15.65 each.
