Klabin operates in the production and export of paper and cellulose, offering products that encompass the entire production chain, from extraction to the final product.
The company has 24 factories in Brazil and one in Argentina, where it produces and markets dozens of products, such as corrugated cardboard packaging, cellulose, industrial bags, and papers and cartons for packaging.
In addition to the final product, Klabin also sells timber in logs, as it owns the forests where the planting is done.

Market Today
Klabin is a secular company, founded in 1899, that throughout its history has diversified in offering pioneering products. Currently, the company's operations are divided into 4 main segments, which are further subdivided. They are:
Forestry;
Cellulose;
Papers;
Packaging.
Check out a little about each of these main segments below:
One of Klabin's main products is cellulose and the marketing of timber in logs. The company sells timber in logs to the large industries of metalworking, furniture, laminators, and for civil construction, in addition to operating heavily in the cellulose sector.

For companies in the paper sector, environmental responsibility is a commitment of extreme relevance and, in Klabin's case, it is no different.
Therefore, the company takes its environmental commitment and the impacts of its operations on the environment seriously. To give you an idea, the company owns 557 thousand hectares of forest.
To mitigate the environmental impacts of its operations, it uses forest management techniques through mosaic planting, which mixes preserved areas with new planting.
Another important fact that reflects the responsibility behind Klabin's operations is regarding water resources. In total, 100% of industrial effluents are treated by the company before returning to water bodies.
In addition to being the largest in the cellulose sector, Klabin is the only company to supply three types of the compound in the Brazilian market, which are:
Fine fiber (eucalyptus);
Long fiber cellulose (pine);
Fluff cellulose.
The fibers are marketed in two main types: bleached cellulose and integrated cellulose. Through the extraction and commercialization of the commodity, Klabin operates in sanitary, disposable, packaging, printing papers, writing, and other sectors.

Exame
Since its foundation, Klabin's main activity has been in the paper market. In fact, in Brazil, it is the largest in the segment, also being one of the largest companies in the world operating in this market.
One of its main products is paper, which accounts for more than half of the company's revenue. This fundamental product is marketed by the company and is divided into 3 main types, namely:
Cardboard
Kraftliner
Packaging (which includes industrial bags and cardboard boxes)
Cardboard is known for being the substitute for plastic in the market. With the growing concern about the impacts of plastic on the environment, cardboard has been widely used around the world, and the expectation is that its use will continue to grow.
With the growth of e-commerce, smart and technological markets have been establishing themselves as a strong consumption trend, which means that the way of consuming has changed.

In this sense, Klabin – through Kraftliner – has been keeping up with the development of the scenario with products such as shipping boxes, among other uses. The company's Kraftliner segment is composed of materials derived from a mix of virgin fibers from pine and eucalyptus.
The wide use of paper provides a promising future for the company, as it offers various forms of production, such as packaging, cardboard structures, and many other ways.
Finally, in addition to the two areas mentioned earlier, Klabin has been increasingly establishing itself in the packaging market. This consolidation is carried out through two segments: corrugated paper and industrial bags.
Klabin's history began with the arrival of Maurício Freeman Klabin in Brazil. The immigrant from Lithuania arrived in Santos (SP) in 1889 and started his career as a cigarette merchant for inns.
Maurício imported paper and tobacco for his manufacturing and, therefore, learned a little more about the paper and cellulose sector in Brazil. The following year, he began working at a printing house that later became Kablin.

Klabin Irmãos e Cia. was founded in 1899 by Maurício Klabin, his brothers Salomão Klabin and Hessel Klabin, and his cousin Miguel Lafer.
The company's expansion process began in the Vargas era. The economic and structural policy started with investment in base industries as a way to strengthen the national market and meet the growing demand.
In this sense, then Klabin Irmãos & Cia began the expansion process by purchasing the company's first large-scale facility.
The so-called Fazenda Monte Alegre, in Paraná, was the first integrated Brazilian factory in the paper and cellulose sector. From this, the Klabin Industry of Paraná was created.
During the government of Juscelino Kubitschek, from 1955 to 1960, urban growth began in the country, with the construction of Brasília being a great example. As a result, national demand for paper increased as large centers grew.
Thinking about this growth, Klabin began to diversify the production of corrugated cardboard, synthetic threads, and promotional matches.At the time, the success was so great that the company opened the Del Castillo unit in the city of Rio de Janeiro in 1955, focused on the production of corrugated cardboard.

Klabin
Between the 1960s and 1970s, urban growth took on new proportions. From this, the demand for printed paper became increasingly greater. Thus, Klabin seized the opportunity with the implementation of two new large machines, each over 6 meters long.
In the newspaper paper sector, the company created Papel e Celulose Catarinense Ltda – PCC. A few years later, in 1974, it entered the disposable paper market through the acquisition of ONIBLA S.A in 1979. Subsequently, Klabin went public on the Stock Exchange.
Despite the optimistic growth, the 1980s affected the Brazilian market as a whole. Due to high inflation and currency devaluation, the company suffered during this period, as cellulose still accounted for a large part of its revenue.
Targeted at the foreign market, the company made large acquisitions, entering the herbal medicine market through non-timber forest products.
In addition to diversification, during the period, the company gave up its ceramics factory in 1984, focusing more intently on the paper market that had been expanding.

After several years of stagnation, with the turn of the decade, Klabin began to show growth again. With a trade policy focused on the outside, it grew alongside the Brazilian economy in 1993.
Despite the promising period, due to economic developments, there was an increase in cellulose reserves, in which the company is a pioneer. The growth of reserves priced cellulose downwards. To solve this problem, the company entered the Kraft paper market.
With the turn of the millennium, Klabin made a new leap in its organizational structure. In the year 2000, Klabin S.A was created, and in the following year, the company withdrew from the newsprint sector, focusing on the packaging segment.

The company then became one of the six largest producers of virgin fibers and cardboard in the world, through the MA – 100 expansion project at the Monte Alegre (PA) unit.
Therefore, the Klabin we know today began to increase its production capacity of corrugated cardboard in Goiana (PE) and, in 2016, inaugurated the Puma unit in Rio Negro (PA).
As a result, production capacity was increased by 1.5 million tons of cellulose. Since then, the company has shown stable growth, a characteristic of well-established businesses.
