Suzano is a company that operates in the pulp sector. Therefore, its focus is on the production and sale of items derived from this commodity. In the pulp sector, its business model is based on the planting of eucalyptus forests in order to generate a complete portfolio of various types of paper and packaging.
In addition, Suzano also engages in the commercialization of its own raw pulp, for other companies in the segment, or that use it for some specific purpose.

Pulp
In the pulp sector, the company operates with the production and sale of two main types of pulp, namely:
Market pulp
Market pulp is obtained through the extraction of cellulose. To ensure a quality standard, the trees to be planted are selected according to their genetic material so that the planting favors the growth and production of pulp.
In a second stage, the eucalyptus seedlings are reproduced in a nursery, and later planted in the field after 120 days of sprouting. Only after performing the silviculture, that is, cleaning and preparing the soil, does the company carry out the planting.
After reaching an ideal size, taking around 6 to 10 years, harvesting is carried out. In this scenario, the machines Feller Buncher, which harvests the trees with bark, and the Harvester, which harvests and debarks the logs, come into play. After being harvested, the woods are transported to the factory by trucks, where they will be processed, going through the stages of cooking, delignification, purification, pre-bleaching, bleaching, drying, and baling.
Finally, after being cut and packaged, the bundles of pulp proceed to industrial logistics. Incredibly, this large agribusiness industry is the fifth largest producer of market pulp in the world.
Fluff pulp
Simply put, fluff pulp is used in the segments of absorbents and disposable diapers as it has a high absorption capacity. Given the high market demand for this item, Suzano develops the Eucafluff, a short fiber pulp that maintains the same absorption capacity presented by long fiber fluff pulp, commonly used for this purpose. Currently, the company has a production capacity of over 100 thousand tons per year of this material.
The long trajectory of this company began in 1924, the year Ukrainian immigrant Leon Feffer founded Suzano Papel e Celulose. About 17 years later, operations began at the first paper factory in São Paulo-SP, in the Ipiranga neighborhood.
In 1956, the Company began producing pulp from eucalyptus fiber. The following year, it acquired a manufacturing plant in the city of Suzano-SP.
Between 1960 and 1990, Suzano made several important acquisitions in order to expand its business. Thus, it purchased the Indústrias de Papel Rio Verde, enabling it to produce pulp and paper entirely made from eucalyptus fiber on a large scale.
Soon, in 1975, paper exports to Europe began. In the meantime, in 1982, the company's research and development yielded excellent results, allowing it to apply biotechnology in its plantations through micropropagation practices, that is, the cultivation of tree species in vitro.
By 1992, it began operating in southern Bahia with pulp production. In the following century, in 2004, the Company acquired the Ripasa, a future unit located in the city of Limeira-SP, in a consortium with VCP.
In 2010, Suzano acquired the Futuragene, a pioneering company in biotechnology for increasing productivity in its forest assets.
The year 2012 is marked by the initial public offering of its shares, raising a total of R$ 1.48 billion, with these assets starting to be traded in the Novo Mercado segment just five years later, in 2017.
Shortly thereafter, in 2014, the company inaugurated another unit, now in Imperatriz-MA. Just a year later, the already recognized Suzano purchased half of the Ibema, the third largest manufacturer of cardboard in the country at the time.
More recently, in 2019, it carried out a highly significant merger with the Fibria, generating a fundamental synergy to achieve leadership in this market and attain a remarkable global presence.
