Rio Paranapanema Energia is a company that operates in the generation of electric power. It operates and manages 10 hydroelectric plants, eight of which are located near the Paranapanema River, between the states of São Paulo and Paraná.
The other two are located on the Sapucaí-Mirim River, in São Paulo. They have a total installed capacity of 2,274 megawatts (MW). Rio Paranapanema Energia has two concession contracts.
The first is Concession Contract 76/99, which governs the concession of the hydroelectric plants Jurumirim, Chavantes, Salto Grande, Capivara, Taquaruçu, and Rosana. This contract is valid for a period of 30 years, thus it will conclude in 2029.

The second Concession Contract regulates the hydroelectric plants Canoas I and Canoas II. They are shared through a consortium with the company CBA. The contract has a duration of 35 years and ends in 2033.
The company is entitled to 49.7% of the energy generated at Canoas I and Canoas II, while CBA is entitled to the remaining 50.3%. An important detail is that the main controller of Rio Paranapanema Energia is the China Three Gorges Corporation group.
In summary, China Three Gorges Corporation is a multinational clean energy company focused on the development and operation of large-scale hydroelectric plants.
The company's first hydroelectric plant was Salto Grande, whose construction began in 1951. In 1953, the Paranapanema Hydroelectric Plants (Uselpa) were created.

In 1956, the construction of the Jurumirim plant began, and in 1958, the construction of Chavantes started.
In 1966, CESP was created, which at the time was the Electric Power Plants of São Paulo, the successor of Uselpa. In 1987, the Rosana hydroelectric plant was inaugurated.
In 1992, the Taquaruçu plant was completed, and the works for Canoas II began. A few years later, in 1999, the Paranapanema Electric Power Generation Company was inaugurated.
Also in 1999, the Canoas I and Canoas II plants were completed. Currently, Rio Paranapanema Energia is mainly controlled by the China Three Gorges Corporation group.
In December 2016, CTG completed the acquisition of Duke Energy International's operations in Brazil.
The operation included Rio Paranapanema Energia S.A., the new name for Duke Energy International Geração Paranapanema S.A.

In summary, China Three Gorges Corporation was established in 1993 and is currently the largest producer of hydroelectric power in the world, with about 100 GW of capacity, considering operations and constructions.
Moreover, it developed and operates the largest hydroelectric plant in the world, the Three Gorges, on the Yangtze River in China.
