Cemig is an electric power holding company from the state of Minas Gerais, with assets and businesses in 24 states of Brazil and the Federal District.

Composed of more than 174 companies, the Company operates in the areas of generation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization of electric power. In addition, the company distributes natural gas through Gasmig, electric power through Efficientia, and renewable energy through Renova.
In addition to the more than 174 companies, Cemig also has consortia and participation funds, which makes the Company one of the most solid companies in the electric power segment in Brazil.
The history of Cemig began at a historic moment when Brazil, specifically the state of Minas Gerais, was undergoing industrial changes. Minas functioned as a mining location, and the metallurgical activities, in turn, drove the development of the state. However, what was lacking at that time was energy.

From this point, the history of Cemig began. This is because, in 1951, during the government of then-state governor Juscelino Kubitscheck, the Legislative Assembly received a proposal to double the energy in Minas. This was Kubitscheck's proposal during his government.
After the president himself signed the release for the construction of the electric company, in 1952, Cemig was officially born, initially named Centrais Elétricas de Minas Gerais. From that point, the company began hiring qualified professionals and created job opportunities at that time.
At the state level, Cemig was the first electric power company founded in the country, where resources are maintained through the State, the federation, and international organizations. Thus, the company emerged as a large hydroelectric factory, with a very well-established purpose: to generate enough energy for the development of the state of Minas Gerais.

In the mid-1950s, Juscelino Kubitscheck assumed the presidency of Brazil and, as he had already presented to the Assembly, continued the expansion projects in transportation and energy infrastructure, aiming for the development of Minas Gerais and, in general, Brazil.
