The Brasília Energy Company (CEB), controlled by Grupo CEB, is a holding company that originated from the former Brasília Electricity Company. The company focuses on the generation and distribution of electric energy in the Federal District and surrounding region. 

The Company fully controls the companies CEB Distribuição, CEB Participação, and CEB Geração. In addition, it also has control over CEB Lajeado, Energética Corumbá, and Corumbá Concessões and is affiliated with BSB Energia and CEB Gás. 

Through its controlling companies, the Company generates energy at the Paranoá Plants, at the Queimada Plant, and at the Brasília Thermoelectric Plant, as well as at the Luís Eduardo Magalhães hydroelectric plant located in Tocantins, and at Corumbá III and IV. 

Until 2019, the largest shareholder of the company was the government of the Federal District, which held 93.21% of the company's common shares. The second largest shareholder was the FIA Mystique, managed by Vinci Equities. 

Thus, the main products of the company are:

• Generation and Distribution of Electric Energy;

• Brazilian Gas Company;

• Corumbá Concessões S.A;

• Energética Corumbá III S.A;

• BSB Energética S.A.

The Brasília Energy Company is a holding controlled by the CEB Business Group. The company's origin comes from the former Brasília Electricity Company, created on December 16, 1968. In 1992, after a series of investments in new businesses, the company began to be called Brasília Energy Company. 

In 1993, the company obtained the concession for piped gas and, in 1994, received a concession to participate in hydroelectric utilization consortia. 

In 2006, the company underwent a corporate restructuring, where it granted the distribution of electric energy in the Federal District, the generation of the Paranoá Plants, the Brasília Thermoelectric Plant, and the generation of the Queimada Plant to the companies CEB Distribuição, CEB Geração, and CEB Participações. 

Construction of Brasília

When the city of Brasília was built, still under the presidency of Juscelino Kubitschek, the main doubt regarding the city still persisted. After all, how to meet the entire demand for electric energy of the city and region, which now housed the new Federal Capital?

The concern was quite relevant, as there was no source of electric energy generation in the region. Furthermore, the date for the inauguration of Brasília further frightened the leaders, as it would not be possible to install a definitive energy source at the site before the city's foundation.

Thus, the alternative found was to utilize energy from the Cachoeira Dourada Hydroelectric Plant, which was in the final stages of completion on the border of the states of Minas Gerais and Goiás, almost 400 km from Brasília. Despite being a good alternative, the new Federal Capital only began receiving energy from this plant in 1959. 

Therefore, even before Brasília started receiving electric energy, it was necessary to temporarily meet the demand. Thus, emergency measures were created, such as the acquisition of two diesel-electric engines, the construction of a small plant in Catetinho, among others. 

At the same time, another plant began to be built, the Paranoá Plant, which would only be completed in 1962. In this sense, the entity responsible for providing electricity services during this period was NOVACAP, through the Department of Power and Light-DFL. 

In other words, at that time, the Ministry of Mines and Energy established a regulation that required other companies in the electric sector to provide services for the new capital. Thus, to meet Brasília's energy demand, the Electric Central Companies of Minas Gerais S.A, Electric Central Companies of Goiás S/A, and Paulista Company of Power and Light began to provide services to Brasília. 

Creation of CEB

Even after seven years of Brasília's foundation, the city's residents still suffered from a continuous lack of electric energy. Therefore, to solve the problem, the Ministry of Mines and Energy created, in 1967, a Working Group focused on finding measures to address the issue. 

One of the measures was the signing of the document that took the first step towards the creation of the Brasília Electricity Company – CEB, on December 16, 1968. From that point on, the DFL of NOVACAP, which managed Brasília's energy demand, was replaced by the Company, a mixed-economy enterprise that offered more administrative flexibility and autonomy. 

Regarding the technical area of the company, CEB was responsible for the expansion and improvement of the Company's distribution networks. Between 1975 and 1977, for example, the company was already considered the most profitable in the Brazilian Electric Sector. 

In the following year, in 1978, CEB completed a Biennial Public Lighting Plan, in which it managed to achieve the mark of 50,000 light points throughout the Federal District. By the end of the 1970s, the company reached 200,000 consumers. 

In the 1980s, CEB began investing in transmission substations, where two existing substations were expanded, and by the end of the decade, 12 more were built. Additionally, CEB invested in customer service, allowing clients to make suggestions, request information, and report irregularities. 

In the 1990s, the company achieved a significant milestone with the execution of large-scale social projects, such as the implementation of electric energy infrastructure for new urban settlements located in the Federal District. 

In 1993, the company ceased to be the Brasília Electricity Company to become the Brasília Energy Company, where it began to create its operating markets and became the official electricity distributor of the DF.
