Ferrovia Centro Atlântica S.A. – FCA (VSPT3, VSPT4), is a railway concessionaire belonging to the VLI Multimodal S.A. group. Headquartered in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, the company currently operates in 8 states of the country, in the Central-Southeast axis: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Federal District, Sergipe, Minas Gerais.
Its main activity is cargo transportation, which may include fertilizers, fuels, minerals, agricultural products, steel products, industrialized goods, wood logs, containers, cement, grains, and sugar.
FCA is also responsible for the administration and maintenance of the Estrada de Ferro Oeste de Minas since 2001, a center for national railway historical preservation.
Founded in 1996, FCA begins its operations in the section corresponding to what was once known as the Brazilian Central-Eastern Network, consisting of just over 7,000 km of tracks.
In 1998, the section corresponding to the Araguari-Santos Export Corridor, between Campinas, São Paulo, and Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, comes under FCA's control after an agreement in the concession process of the Paulista Network. The following year, FCA's control changes, and Companhia Vale do Rio Doce, VALE, acquires part of its shareholding control, as does the Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional.
In 2003, VALE becomes the holder of 99.99% of the shares of Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica. In 2011, VLI, Integrated Logistics Value, is created to bring together all logistics assets belonging to VALE.
A major change occurs in 2014, and VLI is sold to other companies. Soon 20% of its shares belong to the Mitsui, 15.9% are acquired by FI-FGTS and 26.5% become part of Brookfield Asset Management. Thus, both VLI and FCA, which was under its control, cease to be completely owned by VALE.
