Usiminas is one of the largest companies in the steel industry in Brazil. In the market since 1952, the company operates in various segments related to steel, such as:
Mining and logistics;
Service and distribution centers;
Customized solutions for the industrial sector.

One of Usiminas' highlights is its technological and administrative modernization processes, achieved mainly after the federal government's privatization program in 1991. The company was the first to be privatized under the government's program.
Among the services offered by the company, a large part is provided in an integrated manner with the client, which contributes to the company's development, especially in the Brazilian industrial chain.
Only in 2017, Usiminas recorded a net revenue of R$ 10.7 billion, with sales of 4.0 million tons of steel products and a net profit of R$ 315 million. In addition, the company is publicly traded with shares listed not only on B3 but also on the Madrid Stock Exchange (Latibex) and in the Over-the-Counter Market. Currently, the company has 40,000 shareholders.

The services offered by Usiminas are focused on the complete line of flat steels, where the company serves various sectors of the Brazilian and global industry. The company's nominal production capacity is approximately 9.5 million tons/year.
Regarding the company's operational structure, Usiminas has strategically located plants in Ipatinga (MG) and Cubatão (SP) – the main industrial axis of the country. Steel sales and distribution are carried out in all regions of Brazil.
In summary, the company offers a broad portfolio in the manufacturing of capital goods and logistics, as well as services in the steel transformation sector. Both segments are focused on providing integrated and customized solutions to the industrial market.
Usiminas was founded in 1956, but only began operations in 1962. At that time, the company was established as a state-owned enterprise, when Juscelino Kubitscheck was the president of Brazil. With little production time, by 1971, the company had already reached 1 million tons of steel produced per year.

With large-scale production, Usiminas entered into constant expansion processes. By the end of the decade, the company's production reached 3.5 million tons annually, and the company became responsible for being the main supplier of basic raw materials for the reactivation of heavy industry, such as construction, automotive, and naval.
In 1991, as part of the federal government's privatization program, the company became the first integrated privatized company of the governmental program. Additionally, the company invested US$ 852 million to optimize operational processes within the Production Optimization Plan.
Another investment made during the same period was the creation of Unigal and the cold strip line, being part of the innovations and growth of the company. The process of expansion and improvement of production strategies made the company a reference in the steel sector in the country, as well as abroad, between 2005 and 2006.
By 2008, after increasing productivity, introducing new products to the company's portfolio, making new adaptations and partnerships, Usiminas underwent a restructuring process, where changes were made in the administrative and production sectors. The changes were fundamental to establish strategies both in organization and in production methods.

In 2009, also as part of all the processes of change and improvement, the company changed its logo and became known as Soluções Usiminas. The following year, Usiminas entered the mining sector.
In 2011, the company began operating in the foreign market, through a joint participation with Techint, of Ternium – a holding company specialized in managing Hylsamex in Mexico, Sideras in Argentina, and Sidor in Venezuela.
An event that marked the company's history was the explosion that occurred in 2018 in the Linz Donawitz Gas (LDG) tank inside the Ipatinga plant. At the time, different neighborhoods neighboring the plant felt the tremor of 1.8 on the Richter Scale.
Today, the company is made up of three main shareholders that constitute the controlling group of Usiminas, namely: Nippon Usiminias Co. Ltd. with 29.45%, Previdência Usiminas with 6.75%, Ternium/Tenaris with 27.66%, and free float shares amounting to 36.14%.
