Metalúrgica Riosulense was founded by João Stramosk in 1946, in Rio do Sul, Santa Catarina. In the beginning, the company offered basic mechanical services.

However, ten years after its founding, the company began to expand its area of operation. Thus, it started producing valve guides for the automotive market.

The automotive market experienced significant growth, and as a result, Riosulense's main activity in the early 1980s became the production of auto parts.

In 1988, the company went public. Riosulense is listed on the stock exchange in the Industrial Goods sector and in the Road Material segment.

In 1990, Riosulense opened a new headquarters in Rio do Sul. The purpose of the new headquarters was to expand the company's activities and provide a more robust structure for employees.

Two years later, the company won the Productivity and Quality Incentive Award, granted by CNI.

In the following years, the company continued its constant growth process, and by the turn of the millennium, Riosulense was already a supplier of parts for major manufacturers.

In 2001, as a result of the pursuit of excellence in service delivery and the production of quality items, the company achieved ISO 9001 certification.

Subsequently, in 2011, Riosulense expanded its horizons again. Thus, the company began supplying parts for railways.

In 2012, Riosulense opened a cylinder sleeve factory, and in 2014, the company received the international certificate from the Transportation and Power Generation program. It was the first foundry in Brazil to receive such certification.

In 2019, Metalúrgica Riosulense changed its name to simply RIO. Still in 2019, the company opened a prototype factory with 3D printing technology.
