Marcopolo is a company that operates in the segment of road materials, focusing on the development of collective transportation, as well as manufacturing buses and microbuses for road and collective transport. Currently, the Company is a leader in its segment, being one of the largest bus manufacturers in the world.

The company operates on all five continents and produces vehicles that are sold in over a hundred countries. In addition to manufacturing buses and microbuses, the company also manufactures school and tourist buses, which are part of Marcopolo's special projects.
As a way to expand the company's portfolio, Marcopolo created, in 1988, the Marcopolo Foundation, enhancing operational processes in Brazil and abroad. The double-decker bus, for example, was launched in Brazil for the first time by Marcopolo in 1995.
In addition, the Company operates through Banco Moneo S.A, created in 2005, focusing on financing the products offered by the company. The process of internationalization was established, after some international projects, with Tata Motors, an Indian company. Both created a joint venture.

In the road production market, the company holds approximately half of the entire national production in relation to bus bodies, in addition to being the largest exporter in the country when it comes to bus bodies.
Currently, Marcopolo is one of the companies with the most prominent shares on B3. In addition to the road materials segment, the Company also integrates the Industrial Sector Index of the stock exchange.
The history of Marcopolo began in 1949, in the city of Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul. Initially, the company was called Nicola & Cia and operated as an industry for manufacturing bus bodies, being the first manufacturer of this type of material in Brazil. At the beginning, the company had eight partners and fifteen employees.

In the same year of its founding, the then Nicola & Cia produced the first bus, with an aluminum structure and a wooden body. Through the success of the first production, Transporte Pérola ordered more buses, initiating a series of productions made by Marcopolo.
The first steel body made by the company was only launched in 1952. By 1960, after expanding in Brazilian territory, Marcopolo began exporting products to Uruguay. Eight years later, the company launched the first monocoque bus in Brazil.
The name Marcopolo originated from the monocoque bus, a tribute to the well-known Venetian traveler, and the company changed its corporate name to Marcopolo S.A Carrocerias e Ônibus in 1971. It was only in 1992 that the Company changed its name again to what we know today, Marcopolo S.A.
