The history of Petz began in 2002, when the store was opened by Sérgio Zimerman, under the name Pet Center Marginal. At the time, the entrepreneur had another business that unfortunately he could not continue. Thus, in the same place, an old warehouse on Marginal Tietê in São Paulo, Sérgio decided to open the pet-specialized store.

A few years after its founding, in 2013, 50.01% of the company's shares were purchased by the private equity fund Warburg Pincus. With the acquisition, the fund began to control the company's shareholding, and as part of the expansion processes, the company underwent significant changes.
By 2017, Petz was awarded as the company with the best service in pet e-commerce, with the Época Reclame Aqui award. Additionally, in the same year, Sérgio Zimerman was chosen as the entrepreneur of the year.
Over the years, the company has consolidated itself in the market with store networks that, in addition to being specialized in pets, also offer products, services, and events. In total, Petz has 110 stores, which are divided into 11 convenience stores and 99 standard stores. Furthermore, the company has 9 hospitals that operate 24 hours.
