Considered the largest manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients in Latin America, Nortec Química began its activities aiming to produce quality medications developed nationally. With knowledge from the most important Research Centers in Brazil, combined with the country's chemical and petrochemical industrial experience.
The company currently supplies more than 250 pharmaceutical laboratories in the country and worldwide, being the only producer of Benzidazole on the planet.
In the national pharmaceutical scenario, the company holds great relevance as it produces medications of well-known brands, generics, similar products, and medications for neglected diseases – as defined by the WHO.
Adding to its portfolio the production and development of more than 50 active pharmaceutical ingredients with proprietary technology. In addition, it is internationally recognized for contributing technological solutions for the improvement and well-being of people's health.
Founded in December 1985 as a subsidiary of NORQUISA, Nortec-Nordeste Química Desenvolvimentos Tecnológicos LTDA, a small cell of what would one day become Nortec Química S.A. The following year, the first agreement of Nortec-Nordeste with Fiocruz is made.
In a few years, in 1997, Nortec-Nordeste Química Desenvolvimentos Tecnológicos LTDA changes its name to Nortec Química after some internal restructuring. Soon, in 1999, the company receives its first award from the Pharmaceutical Industry Union.
By 2002, the company is marked by a new phase, the entry of Bank BNDES, thus becoming a Corporation, and starting its expansion project, building its third chemical synthesis unit. In the same year, a Wastewater Treatment Unit is also initiated, designed by the Graduate Coordination in Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
Subsequently, after being the first company qualified with the program aimed at Research, Development, and Technological Innovation from Profarma, in 2004, and being nominated by the Ministry of Health to participate in Public-Private Partnership projects, in 2009, in 2011, the company becomes the only manufacturer in the world of Benznidazole – an ingredient intended for the treatment of Chagas disease.
In the following year, the company makes an investment valued at over R$50 million for the duplication of one of its units, and in 2016 it is internationally recognized for its innovation project at the Frontier of Knowledge, alongside UFRJ.
For its part, 2017 is marked by the inauguration of two new production units. In 2018, seeking to expand the production capacity of its laboratories, a new contract with BNDES is signed.
