Hapvida operates in the supplementary health sector, providing medical and dental assistance. The two products offered by the company are:
1- Medical assistance plans
This type of plan has individual, family, and corporate categories. Medical assistance plans are offered in all states of the Northeast Region and also in the states of Amazonas and Pará in the North region.

Hapvida prefers to offer these services in cities where it has its own service network. In short, Hapvida's health plans can be of three types:
Our Plan: This is the best-selling plan among those offered by Hapvida. It has an exclusive service network with hospitals, urgent care units, clinical centers, laboratory collection points, and imaging diagnostic units.
In the Our Plan category, the client can choose between a ward or a private room. In summary, the ward consists of a room with two beds. In the private room, the client can have an exclusive room.
Mix: In addition to having the same services as the exclusive service network of the Our Plan, the Mix also includes limited services from the accredited network. Hapvida has approximately 1,500 accredited establishments.

Pleno: Finally, in the Pleno category, the client has access to the services of Hapvida's exclusive service network plus access to 100% of the accredited network. In other words, while access in the Mix plan is limited, in the Pleno it is total.
2- Dental plans
The dental plans offered by Hapvida are divided into four types:
Prevention and urgency;
Mixed;
Pre-payment;
Plus Rol.
The Prevention and Urgency plan is the simplest plan. In it, the client only pays the amount for preventive and urgent procedures. Therefore, if the beneficiary needs additional services, they will be done in the post-payment modality and paid directly to the service provider (mixed product).
The Pre-Payment category is a plan with national coverage that includes all procedures stipulated by ANS. Finally, the Plus Rol plan offers coverage for more procedures than required by ANS, such as procedures with orthoses and prostheses.

The history of Hapvida began when oncologist Candido Pinheiro Koren de Lima inaugurated the Antônio Prudente Clinic in 1979. In the years following the inauguration of the Clinic, the company expanded its activities.
Thus, the Clinic eventually became a hospital. In 1993, the company began its activities as a supplementary health operator through Hapvida Assistência Médica.

The main objective was to generate revenue for the Antônio Prudente Hospital. Starting in 1996, the shareholders decided to separate the operator and hospital businesses.
The intent was to maximize the value of both segments. However, the separation did not go well as the results of the business lines have a negative correlation.
In 1999, the company acquired a hospital in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, which is now called Hospital Antônio Prudente de Natal, and in the year 2000, Hospital Teresa de Lisieux became part of the company's operations.
Since the separation between the operator and the hospitals did not work, starting in the year 2000, the shareholders made new strategic decisions.
As a result, the operator became the main revenue generator, and the hospitals became a means of providing services to the operator's clients. This new operating model worked, and starting in 2004, the company began to focus on expanding its activities.
Thus, in 2005, the Hospital São Lucas was purchased, and in 2007, Hospital Layr Maia was acquired. In the following years, the company continued to grow through the acquisition of other companies.

By 2011, Hapvida Saúde became a national supplementary health operator through the sale of dental plans. In the following years, more new acquisitions were made, such as Hospital Aldeota, Hospital Rio Mar, and Hospital João Pessoa.
Subsequently, in 2018, Hapvida went public on the stock exchange. The IPO raised R$ 3.43 billion and was considered the largest in the history of supplementary health in Brazil.
In 2019, the company continued to make new acquisitions, such as the purchase of Grupo América in the metropolitan region of Goiânia, Goiás. In the same year, the company made its first issuance of debentures worth R$ 2 billion.
The debentures have a maturity period of five and seven years and received the highest investment grade from the credit rating agency Fitch Ratings. Still in 2019, the company made a subsequent offering of shares.
In the following months, Hapvida made several acquisitions, such as Hospital de Paraupebas, Medical, and Plamed. The year 2020 was also full of new acquisitions.

In January 2021, Hapvida announced through a Relevant Fact a non-binding proposal for a business combination with Notre Dame Intermédia.
In March, the operation was approved in a General Meeting by the shareholders of both companies, in June the transaction received approval from ANS and was sent to CADE. Still in 2021, Hapvida made a second subsequent offering of shares and acquired other companies.
