Energisa Mato Grosso is an energy distribution company, controlled by the Energisa Group. The company operates in the distribution of electric energy. This sector operates through the price cap model.
In other words, there is a price set annually, the tariff, for the product offered, and the company's earnings derive from market growth and its operational efficiency. Energisa is the 5th largest electric energy distribution group in Brazil.

Thus, it serves about 8 million consumers spread across 11 states. This accounts for about 10% of the country's population. The 11 distributors controlled by Energisa are located in the states of:
Minas Gerais;
Sergipe;
Paraíba;
Mato Grosso;
Rio de Janeiro;
São Paulo;
Tocantins;
Paraná;
Rondônia;
Acre.
In total, the company has a concession area that reaches 2,034 km, which corresponds to 24% of the national territory.
In addition to distribution, Energisa's operations also include commercialization and the provision of services related to electric energy, operations in the distributed electric energy generation segment, and assets in energy transmission.

It is worth noting that the electric sector is composed of 4 segments:
Generation: In this segment, energy generation occurs.
Transmission: It is responsible for transporting energy from the generation point to the distribution or consumption point.
Distribution: This segment is responsible for converting energy to a lower voltage and transporting it to the final consumer.
Commercialization: This is the segment that buys and sells electric energy in the free contracting environment.
Consumers can also be of different types:
1- Captive: These are customers who compulsorily purchase energy from the concession holder to which they are connected.
Thus, each consumer unit pays only one energy bill per month, which includes the distribution and generation service. The tariffs are regulated by the government.
2- Free: These are customers who purchase energy directly from generators or marketers. This is done through bilateral contracts with freely negotiated conditions.

In this case, each consumer unit pays a bill for the distribution service to the local concessionaire and one or more bills to the energy supplier.
3- Special: These are individual consumer units or those grouped by a community of interests, either de facto or de jure, with loads equal to or greater than 5000 kW and that are part of Group A.
These consumers are restricted to acquiring energy only from projects generated from renewable sources such as biomass, wind, and solar.
The State of Mato Grosso had its first Hydroelectric Plant in 1928. With the need to increase energy production, the Mato-Grossense Electric Central (now Energisa Mato Grosso) was created in 1958.
In 1994, the Government of the State of Mato Grosso and Eletrobrás began to manage a large part of the company's publicly traded capital, and in 1997 it was auctioned and purchased by Grupo Rede.
In 2014, Aneel approved the transfer of management of Rede Cemat to the Energisa Group. The history of Energisa began in 1905 with the founding of Companhia Força e Luz Cataguazes-Leopoldina (CFLCL) in the city of Cataguases, Minas Gerais.

Its founders were: José Monteiro Ribeiro Junqueira, João Duarte Ferreira, and Norberto Custódio Ferreira. Two years after its creation, in 1907, the company became the 3rd largest publicly traded company to obtain registration on the Rio de Janeiro Stock Exchange.
In the following year, the company inaugurated the Maurício Plant, its first hydroelectric plant with 800 kW of power. It was one of the pioneering generators in Brazil. Subsequently, in 1912, the Maurício Plant was expanded to 1.2 MW.
In 1918, the acquisition of Companhia Pombense de Eletricidade and Usina Coronel Domiciano was made. In 1925, Cataguazes-Leopoldina became one of the first companies in the world to grant profit-sharing to employees.
In 1928, the Ituerê Plant of 4MW was built in the municipality of Rio Pomba in MG, and in 1949, the acquisition of Empresa Força e Luz Além Paraíba occurred in the municipality of Além Paraíba in MG.
In 1970, the acquisition of Grupo Diesel for thermal generation of 5.5 MW was made in Cataguases. A few years later, in 1977, the purchase of Companhia Leste Mineira de Eletricidade in Manhuaçu, MG, was made.

In 1997, the auction acquisition of Companhia de Eletricidade de Nova Friburgo, which is now Energisa Nova Friburgo, was made. In the same year, the acquisition of Energipe, which is now Energisa Sergipe, was also completed.
Over the years, the company made other acquisitions, built hydroelectric plants, and expanded its operations. For example, in 2000, the acquisition of Saelpa for R$ 36.3 million occurred through a privatization auction.
In 2008, the Cataguazes-Leopoldina Group transformed into the Energisa Group. As a result, the company's subsidiaries began to have the prefix Energisa. In 2010, Energisa entered the generation of electric energy from wind sources.
In 2012, the company completed the acquisition of electric generation assets from sugarcane biomass, and in 2014, it completed the transfer of the controlling stake of Grupo Rede to Energisa.

Subsequently, in 2019, Energisa purchased 87% of the capital of Alsol Energias Renováveis S.A, a company of Algar Empreendimentos, which is a pioneer in the photovoltaic system in Brazil.
Finally, in 2021, the Energisa Group launched Voltz Capital S.A, the first fintech in the electric sector. In summary, the fintech offers a free digital account that replaces the main banking services of traditional banks.
