Banco BMG is a financial institution that is part of Grupo BMG, controlled by the Guimarães family and founded in 1906. Initially, Benjamim Guimarães, who at the time was a Colonel, decided to open an industry specialized in textile production, Ferreira Guimarães.

The idea materialized, but Benjamim aspired to and decided to enter various segments over the years. It was then that, in 1930, Benjamim Guimarães' son, Antônio Mourão Guimarães, created, in the city of Belo Horizonte, the then Banco Crédito Predial S.A, which later, in 1989, became Banco BMG.
Initially, the bank developed activities related to vehicle financing and wholesale and retail banking services. However, with the arrival of the 1990s, the bank specialized only in the retail and wholesale segment. By 1998, BMG became a pioneer by offering, for the first time in the country, the option of consigned credit for clients.
A few years later, in 2005, Banco BMG began to offer the consigned credit card as a product, once again becoming a pioneer in the financial segment. Five years after the creation of the card, consigned credit already accounted for 90% of the bank's assets, where the institution achieved 20% representation compared to Brazilian institutions.

By 2012, the bank began to offer, distribute, and market consigned credit throughout Brazil, after signing an association contract with Itaú Unibanco S.A. From then on, both financial institutions formed the Joint Venture Banco Itaú BMG Consignado S.A.
Then, in 2013, the bank's headquarters was transferred to the city of São Paulo. By 2016, the franchise network help! credit store was inaugurated, specializing in offering credit to retirees and pensioners.
Finally, in 2017, the BMG Invest Digital platform was launched. One year later, in 2018, Banco BMG acquired 65% of Pago Cartões and then, in 2019, entered B3, the Brazilian stock exchange.
