As a leading and pioneering pharmaceutical industry in the market, Blau works with high-complexity medications, focusing on the segments of immunology, hematology, oncology, nephrology, specialties, and antibiotics. It encompasses the supply of medications to hospitals, private clinics, and health centers specialized in chemotherapy and hemodialysis, as well as public institutions.
Its area of operation currently covers 6 countries in the Americas, in addition to Brazil, which are: Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, and the United States. Currently, it has five industrial plants dedicated to the production of medications. Within the country, it has 4 facilities located in the cities of Cotia, Caucaia, São Paulo, and Anápolis.
Blau is segmented into 4 business units:
Biological Products – Medications produced by biosynthesis;
Oncology – Oral or injectable medications intended for various areas, including cancer treatment.
Specialties – Where products used in the daily routine of a hospital are found. They include antibiotics, muscle relaxants, anesthetics, and those specialized in infectious diseases.
Others – Composed of those medications under medical prescription, retail, non-retail, dermo-medications, among others.
It is estimated that the company has more than 7 thousand clients, including 6 thousand hospitals, 500 oncology clinics, and more than 500 nephrology centers; counting in its portfolio with renowned and diverse brands.
A leader in the institutional segment, Blau was founded in December 1987 by Marcelo Hahn, current board member and CEO of the company, who at the time sought to venture into a market still little explored within Brazil. Thus, in 1992, the company's expansion plan to produce its own high-complexity medications began.
In 1995, the first unit was inaugurated in Caucaia, located in Cotia (SP), dedicated to the manufacture of oncology products. Between 2002 and 2005, following the company's constant growth, a license was obtained for a second industry, dedicated to producing injectable, biological, biotechnological, and anesthetic medications.
The third industrial plant was established in 2011, focused on the production of antibiotics and hospital medications; in addition, in the same year, the company changed its corporate name to Blau Farmacêutica S.A., taking another step in its expansion project beyond national territory.
In 2013, the headquarters in Uruguay was inaugurated, aiming to distribute medications in Latin America. In 2016, operations began in Chile, Peru, and Argentina.
The year 2020, in turn, was marked by the inauguration of a new research center, Blau Inventta, and the acquisition of Pharma Limirio, to accommodate the company's productive expansion. In the following year, 2021, the Initial Public Offering was opened on B3, debuting with a relative rise on the national stock exchange.
