The history of YDUQS Participações (formerly Estácio Participações) began in 1970, when the Estácio de Sá Law School was founded in Rio de Janeiro. The status of the college was changed in 1988, when the institution became a University. Soon after, in 1992, the institution began its expansion process after inaugurating a new campus.

In 2008, after acquiring 20% of the company, GP – a private equity firm – became part of the institution's shareholders. The following year, in 2009, YDUQS began its Distance Education (EAD) services.
In 2011, the company made more acquisitions of educational institutions, this time in the North and Northeast regions. In the same year, it also acquired the Academy of Competitions. Throughout its journey, the company also acquired, between 2014 and 2016, six more colleges, in addition to the Toledo Higher Education Society, located in São Paulo.
