Telecommunications Brazilian S.A – Telebras is a mixed-economy company linked to the Ministry of Communications, which offers connectivity solutions.
The company primarily operates in the implementation of public policies for digital inclusion and in serving the public administration with connectivity services.

In addition, the company has the role of stimulating the development of the telecommunications market, which was previously a monopoly of the company, through the infrastructure of regional providers. Basically, the essential functions of the company are:
Social function: It operates through the implementation of accessibility policies via digital inclusion projects such as the GESAC program and WI-FI BRASIL from MCOM.
Sovereignty function of telecommunications: It is the only company capable of ensuring the strategic communications of National Defense throughout the country in emergency or disaster situations.
It is also the one that provides confidentiality and security for state telecommunications and provides connectivity in border areas and isolated regions. In short, it is Telebras that guarantees satellite communication independently and sovereignly.
Strategic function: With Telebras, thousands of Brazilians make their first access to the internet.
Telebras offers both a cohesive communication network for the country and is capable of establishing connections in public emergency situations.

The structure of Telebras includes nearly 30,000 km of optical fiber spread across the national territory, reaching 1,524 municipalities and a satellite coverage of over 8 million km². The company's services are subdivided into 3 types of solutions:
Terrestrial: It offers IP Telebras products, Point to Point, and L3VPN MPLS.
Satellite: Satellite connection via ka-band made by SGDC, which is the only satellite that reaches 100% of the national territory.
Demand: Solutions for companies that need specific services not listed but related to communication technology.
Telebras was created in July 1972, being linked to the Ministry of Communications, which in turn was established in 1967.
Upon its creation, Telebras became a monopolistic company in the telecommunications market and remained that way until 1998.

This is because, in 1998, the deregulation of the market occurred, allowing new companies to enter the sector. It was also in this year that Telebras was deactivated.
As a result, all the companies that Telebras controlled were regrouped into 12 holdings serving different regions of Brazil. With the regrouping, 4 companies became responsible for fixed telephony in the country while 8 companies were responsible for mobile telephony.
In addition, with the reorganization of telecommunications services, new companies were created such as Telemar and Brasil Telecom, which currently make up Oi and Telefônica (Vivo).
Subsequently, in 2010, Telebras was reactivated. In 2012, decree 7.796/12 initiated the SGDC program in partnership with the Ministry of Defense.
In 2017, SGCD was officially launched, and in October 2018, the installation of GESAC began. In October 2018, the Acolhida Project started, with the installation of access points to assist immigrants.

The year 2019 was marked by a series of events. For example, in February, assistance was provided to Brumadinho, in May the GESAC Program reached the milestone of 1 million students served, in November there was the delivery of 10,000 points from the GESAC Program, and in December, the completion of the COPE-P – Brasília project occurred.
