The history of Mercantil Brasil Financeira began on May 3, 1943, when the first branch of Banco Mercantil do Brasil was inaugurated in Curvelo (MG). At that time, the company was called Banco Mercantil de Minas Gerais.
Ten years after its founding, the company was acquired by the Araújo family. In 1955, the Banco Industrial de Minas Gerais was incorporated into the company's assets. In 1960, the banks Santa Cruz and Metrópole were incorporated.
In 1968, the headquarters building was inaugurated in Belo Horizonte. Since then, it has housed the company's administrative team.
Two years later, in 1970, Banco Mercantil de Investimentos (BMI) was created, the only investment bank in Minas Gerais. In 1972, Banco Industrial de Campina Grande was incorporated.
This led to a breaking of the borders of Minas Gerais in terms of the company's operations. The year 1974 was significant for the company, as it saw the incorporation of Banco Mercantil do Brasil and the official name change.
Another important year was 1977, when the company went public on the stock exchange. In 1999, a revitalization of the visual identity and agency network was carried out.

Later, in 2010, the company sold the INSS auction in Minas Gerais and in the interior of São Paulo, focusing on serving INSS beneficiaries.
In 2018, the company received the ISO 9001 Certification for its main agency, which served to prove the quality of service at the company. Finally, in 2021, the company migrated to level 1 of B3 and consolidated its corporate governance.
