Cemepe is a holding company. Therefore, its main activity consists of participating in other companies as a shareholder or partner.

In addition, it operates in the management of its own resources and third-party resources. Finally, Cemepe also provides technical, financial, and administrative advisory services.
It is worth noting that the company does not have a staff, it uses the structure and human resources of Arbi Rio Imobiliárias.
Cemepe's history began in 1991, when it was founded under the name Companhia Marcopolo de Participações.
In the same year it was founded, Cemepe went public on the stock exchange, where it is listed in the Financial sector and the Other segment.
It was created through a spun-off portion of Marcopolo S.A. Carrocerias e Ônibus. The company aimed to manage, among other assets, the stakes in Banco Arbi S.A. and Marvin Investimentos S.A.
The company's name change occurred in 1993, when it changed its name from Companhia Marcopolo de Participações to Cemepe Investimentos S.A. In 1997, the company purchased the shares of BSB Participações Ltda.

BSB was part of the winning consortium of the bidding for the exploration of mobile phone services in São Paulo, represented by BCP S.A. With its participation in the telecommunications sector, the goal was to provide shareholders with a return on the investments made by Cemepe.
However, BCP S.A. had a history of losses due to the financial burdens resulting from its high indebtedness. Additionally, it showed a very low cash generation to cover these burdens.
Thus, in 2003, BSB Participações Ltda sold the shares it held in BCP S.A. This operation was carried out within the framework of the transfer of BCP's controlling interest to América Móvil S.A.
