The history of the MAHLE Group began in 1920, after the brothers Hermann and Ernst Mahle founded, in Germany, the company specialized in the production of lightweight alloy pistons.
Over the years, the company strengthened and expanded, building manufacturing centers in the United States, Europe, Mexico, Brazil, China, India, Japan, and Argentina.

Thus, Mahle Metal began production activities in Brazil in 1951, when Ernst Mahle moved to the country and became a founding partner of the company. With Ernst Mahle's assistance, Mahle Metal built strategies for the company's operations to be initiated.
In general, the 1970s and 1980s represented a period of international growth for the company, where MAHLE underwent the process of globalization and specialization in the automotive industry. Both factors gave the Company the key to achieving success in its sector.
In 1978, the MAHLE group began to control the shareholding of Cima Componentes Automotivos S.A. During the same period, the company began the process of building the production factory, located in Mogi Guaçu, in the state of São Paulo. With the completion of construction, the factory began operations in 1981.

By 1989, the company decided to change its corporate name and became known as MAHLE Indústria e Comércio Ltda. Furthermore, the early 1990s came loaded with challenges, where automotive production processes demanded quality and product variation. This is because international competition was one of the main factors, making parts more expensive and requiring increasingly agile processes from the market.
In fact, the current name of the company – MAHLE Metal Leve – was only realized in 1998, after Metal Leve S.A transferred the shareholding control to MAHLE GmbH. During the same period, the already formed MAHLE Metal Leve conducted a joint venture with Miba from Austria.
