Gol’s history dates back to 2001, when the company’s first flight was operated on a Boeing 737-700 from Brasília Airport to Congonhas Airport in São Paulo.
In the same year, it created Gollog, which would become Gol’s cargo and logistics service. In 2002, the first Boeing 737-800 Next Generation arrived, and the company began operating on the Rio de Janeiro–São Paulo air bridge, one of the country’s busiest routes.
In 2003, the Company launched web check-in and began operating night flights. It also created the virtual AWB, a mechanism through which customers can access the Gollog network environment via the internet and manage the transportation of their cargo.

In 2004, the company began selling its shares on the São Paulo (Bovespa) and New York (NYSE) stock exchanges, offering a total of 33,050,000 preferred shares and raising R$878,138,500.00.
As a result, by the following year Gol was already the only airline flying to every state capital in the country. In addition, Gollog began operating in the international market.
In 2007, it made its first acquisition, purchasing the operations of VARIG. That same year, it introduced Smart Check-in via the internet. The innovation also enabled check-in by cellphone.
In 2009, the company installed self-service kiosks at airports, facilitating access to boarding areas, baggage check-in and the check-in process, thereby improving the customer experience.

In 2011, a strategic alliance agreement was reached with the airline Delta. The agreement to sell tickets with Delta Air Lines enabled faster connections between the two companies. In addition, it acquired WEBJET and signed a new codeshare, this time with Qatar Airways, the national airline of the State of Qatar.
