Bemge Investments, founded in 1967 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, currently operates as an investment holding, providing financial and administrative support and analysis services.
Its activities range from mediating operational policies, expansion projects, such as mobilizing financial resources to other companies. However, its activities are exclusive to the financial market, directed by its parent company, the Itaú group.
Founded in 1967, headquartered in Belo Horizonte – Minas Gerais, as the Bank of the State of Minas Gerais, resulting from the merger of the Agricultural Mortgage Bank and the Mineiro Production Bank. Due to its rapid growth, and with state support, Banco Bemge went public in 1977.
By 1997, the bank already had 489 branches and over 230 service points. Soon, in 1998, its privatization occurred, a consequence of the privatization project carried out by the government at the time.
Subsequently, in 2000, the bank ceased to be an institution present only in the state of Minas Gerais and began to encompass the entire country.
In 2004, being considered one of the 20 largest banks in the country, Bemge was purchased by Itaú for R$ 583 million. Thus, the institution ceased to provide its initial traditional activities and has since operated as a holding.
