Embraer is a mixed-capital company with state control, created by the Federal Government in 1969, under the name Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica.
The Company is the third largest manufacturer of commercial jets in the world and the largest exporter of high-tech manufactured products. This achievement was reached in 1994, after the company was privatized.

Focusing on production, the company operates in the fields of commercial aviation, security, defense, and executive aviation. Thus, it produces commercial, military, agricultural, and executive aircraft.
In addition to aircraft, Embraer is also responsible for manufacturing parts used in the aerospace sector. As part of its product portfolio, it also provides services in the aerospace sector.
The company's headquarters is located in the state of São Paulo, in the municipality of São José dos Campos. Besides the headquarters, the Company has several units spread across Brazil, as well as units in some countries around the world.

As a result, Embraer is considered the 3rd largest producer of commercial jets and has delivered more than 8,000 aircraft and has 18,000 employees. After privatization in 1994, the company became the largest exporter of products from the southern hemisphere when it comes to high technology.
The company's capital is dispersed, although the Brazilian government holds veto rights in some decision-making processes within the company. Embraer is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, as well as having shares on the Brazilian stock exchange. On B3, the shares are traded on the Novo Mercado, the highest level of governance.

Before the history of Embraer began, it is necessary to revisit the history of aviation in Brazil. This is because, in 1709, Bartolomeu de Gusmão initiated the world of aviation in the country by creating the hot air balloon. Since then, various changes have occurred, and especially important evolutions, until the then Embraer was established.

In summary, the company's history began in 1969, after being formalized through a Decree Law. However, the company's activities only began a year after its foundation, in 1970. During the 1970s, the company stood out in the market and demonstrated technological solutions for the products it developed.
At that time, Embraer distinguished itself by manufacturing three aircraft: Ipanema, Xavante, and Xingu. In addition to the aircraft produced by the company, the line assembled in partnership with the American company Piper also stood out.
In 1981, for example, Embraer created, in partnership with Italy, the AMX ground-attack aircraft. At the time, the aircraft was considered a milestone in technological production, contributing to the advancement of other projects.

Later, in 1988, the company initiated a binational project in partnership with the Argentine Military Aircraft Factory. The partnership resulted in the creation of the CBA – 123 aircraft, a name chosen in honor of the two countries. Two years later, Embraer completed its first prototype. However, it was not finalized due to a lack of financial resources.
In 1994, Embraer was privatized after going through an auction. The privatization was beneficial, as from that point on, the company developed and expanded its restructuring processes. Still in 1994, the company was considered the 3rd largest company in its segment.
With the arrival of the 2000s, there was also the opening of capital on the stock exchanges of New York and São Paulo. Two years later, Embraer founded Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry Co. Ltd (HEAI), after creating a joint venture with China Aviation Industry Corporation II (AVIC II). From the joint venture, it became possible to manufacture and trade ERJ-145 aircraft in China.

In 2004, the Aeronautical Industry of Portugal S.A (OGMA) was privatized by Embraer, and in 2005, the company began the expansion process regarding the commercialization of executive jets. In 2006, the company's shareholding restructuring occurred, where all shareholders of B3 gained voting rights in the assemblies.
The name as we know it today, Embraer, was only officially adopted in 2010, after the company changed its corporate name. In 2012, the company founded a new joint venture with a Chinese company, this time, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). The main objective of the partnership was the production of executive jets, such as Legacy 600/650.
Still in 2012, Embraer opened two more factories in Portugal, in the city of Évora. In 2018, the creation of another joint venture was announced with the American company Boeing. However, the agreement did not materialize and was canceled in early 2020 by the American company.
