The history of Braskem, in a way, is recent. This is because the company was founded in 2002, after the merger of six companies from Grupo Odebrecht. Thus, Copene, OPP, Nitrocarbono, Polialden, Trikem, and Proppet became Braskem, specialized in the petrochemical sector.
Since its founding, the Company announced that its production processes would be focused on sustainability, aimed at contributing to the environment. One year after its founding, in 2003, the company's shares were already listed on the Madrid stock exchange, being one of the companies that appreciated the most on the New York stock exchange.
Due to its focus on sustainable work, in 2005, Braskem joined the Corporate Sustainability Index of Bovespa. In the same year, the company established a partnership with Petrobras for the construction of a new polypropylene plant, and in 2006, it acquired Politeno.
In 2007, Braskem expanded its portfolio of chemical and petrochemical assets after purchasing products from Grupo Ipiranga. In the same year, it launched its first exclusive product, green polyethylene. In 2008, the business unit in Paulina was inaugurated, in partnership with Petrobras.
In 2009, the Company inaugurated a Joint Venture, Braskem-Idesa, specialized in the production of polyethylene in Mexico. In 2010, the company made several acquisitions, in addition to launching another exclusive product. In the same year, it purchased Quattor (United States) and launched the “l m green” TM label.
In 2011, Braskem became a leader in polypropylene production in the United States and a global leader in biopolymers, after acquiring assets from another American company, Dow Chemicals.
Later, in 2013, the Company became part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, where it began to apply a large portion of its investments in robotics as a way to conduct research in biotechnology.
